The virtual open house consists of modules that will allow you to explore the role of the laboratorian in major topics of critical importance to the health of the public such as, foodborne outbreaks, vectorborne diseases, infectious diseases, emergency preparedness, newborn screening, and environmental health. Teachers and career counselors, we hope you take the tour and share with your students and colleagues, too!Our mission is to interest people in training for an exciting career in the public health lab. We have also worked with teachers across the country over the past year to develop a free, easy-to-use, online resource that will introduce you and your students to the world of Public Health Laboratory (PHL) science and the life of a laboratory scientist.
We are members of Cohort 6 and Cohort 7 of the Emerging Leader Program (ELP), sponsored by the Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL). The ELP program is designed to help develop skills and networks for the public health laboratory leaders of the future. Each year, a new ELP cohort, consisting of 6 to 12 public health laboratory professionals from across the US, collaborate on a year-long group project to address a challenge faced by public health labs, such as workforce development, technical advances in laboratory science, communication with public health and other varied stakeholders, and efficient management of resource-constrained organizations.
